Jaryd is one of our artists and actually designed our logo! We caught up with him this season and made a visit to his studio to see where the magic happens.
1. Favorite artist besides yourself.
All of my friends, or anybody doing their own thing and being creative. I can appreciate and learn or incorporate from all art forms. Mother Nature has the best color palette though.
2. Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Not having a computer or cellphone allows me to have more of a local, rather than global influence to my styles. The mountains are very inspirational, alongside all the unique people they attract.
3. So do you do custom artwork on request? Sell paintings? Available for graphic design work?
I have been part of several amazing group shows and hosted 3 solo shows. Custom art is always encouraged providing there is trust and freedom to be creative in my own style. I am available for design, I keep it very analog; hand painted signs, chalk, and pen/ink is how I get down. No photoshop for this guy.
4. Where you from? How’d you get here? You stickin around?
Born an Olympic baby in Calgary. have been chasing snow for the past 5 years. Fear, deep snow, and being able to ride my bicycle to the hill were all deciding factors. I just spread my wings so probably not stickin around. Lots of new friends/adventures to be had that’s for sure! It will be very cool to see how the younger folks who are forward thinking and sticking around mold Revelstoke in the future.
5. What do you like to do in the mountains?
Surf! Use all my senses and appreciate each moment as there are some folk who will never witness their beauty. They scare the shit out of me but pull me in at the same time. And just like the ocean, when you overcome or conquer their challenges the feeling is unmatch by anything I have ever experienced.
6. What are you educated in? Did you take graphic design in school or sumthin?
No formal schooling. Asking questions, making mistakes and having parents who always encouraged me to do what made me happy is how I got to this point. I am a firm believer in that it’s who you know not what you know. Travelling has taught me so much more than a classroom ever could. About myself, which comes out whenever I get creative opportunities.
7. What is it you love most about Revelstoke?
Honest answer… everything! (califry rolls from Frisby Ridge almost took top spot!)
